Food Myths That Can Make You Fat

Posted in Detox Benefits, Free Trials, weight loss on December 29th, 2011 by Steve – 11 Comments

Food MythsThere are a number of erroneous, beliefs about nutrition, that can actually cause weight gain. Here is a list of some of the more common ones. Read on to discover if any of them are familiar to you.

Adopting a vegan eating plan will automatically cause weight loss.
It’s true that research has shown vegans and vegetarians typically consume fewer calories, but, going vegan strictly as a means of losing weight can backfire. Many times, those who are new to veganism can fail to consume adequate amounts of vital nutrients, and it can also be easy to fall into poor habits such as eating highly processed foods like soy cheese, and high fat treats, which can really pack on the pounds. Do vegan the right way by keeping processed foods to a minimum, and always eat well balanced meals. Protein should account for 10 to 20 percent of your calories and it can be obtained from healthy plant-based sources such as beans, nuts, and seeds.

Eliminate all carbs to speed weight loss.
Your body needs an adequate amount of carbohydrates for energy, as well as a range of essential vitamins and other nutrients, and fiber. Strictly removing something from your diet will oftentimes only cause you to crave the “forbidden” item more, and you may find yourself seeking it out in moments of weakness. Carbs can be an important part of weight management due to the fiber they provide which keeps you feeling full, and they are also known to stimulate the production of a neurotransmitter called serotonin which helps regulate your moods and keep you feeling happy. Instead of removing carbs from your eating plan entirely, simply leave behind heavily processed options and reach for vegetables, fruits and whole grains.

Unlimited diet drinks are fine because they’re calorie free.
Many people who are watching their weight believe that drinking beverages made with artificial sweetener is an easy way to enjoy soda pop, etc. with zero guilt. This theory has been debunked by research studies that show how these “fake” sugars trick the body by introducing sweetness without any calories to back it up. Artificial sweeteners cause you to want more sugar and you might end up binging on unhealthy snacks to satisfy these cravings. Additionally, diet drinks are filled with dangerous additives that have been found to cause a variety of cancers in laboratory experiments.

Protein shakes promote weight loss.
The simple act of adding protein shakes into your eating plan will not help you lose weight, but this is a common mistake among dieters. Protein shakes can be very healthy but drinking them in addition to your usually daily caloric intake will cause you to gain weight, not lose. To use protein shakes successfully, plan on having them as a meal replacement or snack, depending on the number of calories per shake, and select ones that are low in sugar, and have the shortest possible list of ingredients.

Fruit is too sugary to eat while trying to lose weight.
The natural sugars found in fruit are much less worrisome than all of the refined sugar found in processed foods, so you’re better off giving up food items purchased in boxes and bags, than grapes, bananas, oranges and so on. Fruit provides perfect nutrients which are absorbed quickly and easily by your body because they’re in a whole and natural state. Avoiding fruit also means you’re missing out on healthy and filling fiber which keeps you feeling full, and satisfied and can help with long-term weight loss and keeping the weight off once you’ve lost it.

Keep these updated food facts in mind when you’re trying to eat for weight loss, or even just trying to eat more healthfully.

Avoid These Common Fast Weight Loss Mistakes

Posted in Acai Berry, exercise, Free Trials, weight loss on September 22nd, 2011 by Steve – Comments Off

Most people will try to lose weight at some point in their lives, and of course results will always vary. Some people find it incredibly easy while others will struggle with it for a long time. Even though it all boils down to basic science and burning more calories than you consume, there are many ways to go wrong when it comes to losing weight. Just ask any yo-yo dieter or somebody who has been struggling with their weight since their teenage years. Maybe it’s the combination of seemingly easy answers with a need for fast results. Or it could just be related to human nature and the temptation to find the quickest way to do things. In any case, there are common weight loss mistakes that people make all the time, and here are some that you should avoid.

Too much too soon – just because you can lose 10 pounds in one week doesn’t mean you should. In fact, any more than 2 pounds a week is not a good idea. People want instant gratification but when it comes to losing weight, you should look for a more gradual approach that keep your body healthy at the same time. This isn’t a race so try to find a way that you can blend healthier practices into your lifestyle rather than simply exercising your butt off for two weeks.

No planning – the process of weight loss can be a journey and as such, it requires a certain degree of planning. Many people tell themselves that they want to lose weight and jump into it without any organization. They might give themselves a deadline and do everything possible to eat healthy, but there is no overarching plan that ties everything together. It’s important to have a general idea of where you want to go and what it takes in order to get you there. This involves taking a close look at your eating patterns to get a handle on your overall caloric intake. It might also require a bit of daily menu planning and addition to recording information about exercises you do.

High expectations – it’s good to reach for the stars and set goals for yourself, but when it comes to weight loss you need to be realistic as well. You can’t expect yourself to lose weight at the same rate during a given period of time. Nor should you compare your results for your body to anyone else, otherwise it will drive you crazy. Set reasonable goals and be proud of yourself for reaching them while remembering that even little steps help in the overall picture.

Doing it Alone – one mistake people make is isolating themselves for one reason or another when they are trying to lose weight. You might feel alone in the process or maybe even embarrassed about needing to lose weight. But it’s important to recognize there is a lot of help available from friends and family, on the Internet, and from your physician. Open up those lines of communication because trying to do everything on your own can be very difficult.

Obsession – when you make fast weight loss during mission in life it can potentially become an obsession. Many people spend way too much time thinking of fat-free foods they can buy or how they can cut calories from their overall diet. They might spend a lot of time getting up and off the scale while thinking about the numbers constantly. It’s important to find balance when it comes to how you go about things because going too far in one direction can set you off kilter. Try your best not to turn this process into an unhealthy obsession that jeopardizes your health.

Body Detoxing The Right Way

Posted in Colon Cleansing, Detox Benefits on July 22nd, 2009 by Steve – 3 Comments

Body Detoxing The Right Way

Body detoxing involves removing all toxins from your life. It is recommended that you eliminate alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, refined sugars, and saturated fats. You should also minimize the use of products full of chemicals (household cleaners and health care products), and substitute them with natural alternatives.

Decreasing stress is always a good idea, since they cause hormones that create toxins and slow down detoxification enzymes in your liver. Yoga and meditation are good tools to lower your stress levels. It usually takes seven days to full detox.

Many detox programs involve fasting on liquids (usually fresh fruit and vegetable juices, as well as water) for two days, followed by a five-day diet to allow the digestive system to rest. Supplements, herbs, and exercise should also be used. After you have successfully detoxed, now would be a good time to go through a body cleanse. The result is improved health, more energy, and a healthier lifestyle.
